Dear Funder, 

I am writing to invite you to fund independent compliance audits of California fabrication shops through the fabrication Shop Auditor Program.

You know the stakes. Silicosis among countertop fabrication workers is a public health emergency in California, and the Standards Board is weighing whether fabrication of engineered stone should continue at all. ISFA believes workers can be protected – and fabrication can continue – when existing law is followed. The problem is that no one can currently verify which shops follow it.

The Fabrication Shop Auditor Program closes that gap. Independent ISO 45001 auditors, trained on silica and fabrication, audit shops against California’s section 5204 and issue a pass/fail attestation. Shops that pass are listed publicly; shops that do not get a written corrective action plan and a follow-up. We are running a six-month feasibility pilot in California, in coordination with Cal/OSHA, and will report the results to our funders and to the Cal/OSHA Emergency Silica Advisory Committee. 

Our ask: a Cohort Grant of $100,000 to fund audits for 20 shops, or a Half-Cohort Grant of $50,000 to fund audits for 10 shops. 

We have built this program so that your investment protects workers without creating a conflict for you or for the shops. 

• Grants are pooled and restricted to audits. 
• Funders do not select shops, see individual results, or influence pass/fail decisions. 
• No grant is tied to product purchases or to any ISFA policy position. 
• You will receive monthly progress updates, a three month interim report, and the six-month feasibility report delivered to Cal/OSHA.

Your grant funds verified worker protection and produces the data the Cal/OSHA process has been asking for.
